This instrument is provided for middle schools to make experiments on sound resonance. It can be used to test sound occurrence and the relation between sound tuning and frequency, and it also can be used as sound-setting standards for other musical instruments.

2  Performance and Specifications

The tuning forks are made by cutting a whole piece of steel, and they are chromium-plated. The cross-section size of fork prong is about 5.5*6.5 mm. The instrument is composed of eight tuning forks.

If ambient temperature is 20, error in frequency is ±0.2%. Attached to the instrument is a box for the forks and abeater.

3. Usage and Maintenance

After plugging the forks, beat softly one of the forks with the given beater and sound can be heard. Be careful not to beat the forks with any other hard things and they must be protected from impacting against each other. Otherwise frequency change and damage to the forks are sure to occur. After usage the tuning forks must be wiped clean with soft cloth and coated with rust-proof oil, and then it should be put in the wooden box and be kept in a dry place.
